- CO2CHEM: Biological conversion of CO2 to the platform chemical 3-hydroxypropanoic acid;
- ChitoTex: Development and production of new insect chitosan and chitosan based functional coatings for yarns and textile fabrics;
- LIGBIO: A Synthetic Biology approach for bacterial bioconversion of lignin into renewable chemicals;
- NeBrasCa: Next Generation Immunosuppressants: Brasilicardin synthesized by Nocardia spp.;
- OXYPOL: Optimized laccase systems for high-value bio-plastics production from biomass; and
- PROCAR: The exploitation of Xanthophyllomyces dendrorhous as a sustainable platform for the PROduction of high-value CARotenoids.
These projects started in May 2015
- FILAZYME: Novel approaches to develop filamentous micro-organisms for enzyme production;
- EcoYeast: Mastering the economics of adaptation through constraint-based modeling in yeast; and
- DYNAMICS: Analysis and optimization of industrial microorganisms under dynamic process conditions.
Call topics
The call covers the following: ‘Industrial biotechnology for Europe: an integrated approach’, and can include one or more of the following topics concerning process, products/markets and function-based bio-products.
Process
- Conversion of industrial by-products and biomass into value-added products;
- Novel systems for new, more sustainable processes (bio-catalysts such as enzymes, micro-organism and cell-free biosynthesis systems);
- New compounds from existing, but not well studied biological systems, by understanding their metabolic pathways;
- Modelling and optimisation of biological unit operations / modelling for the improvement of cellular bio-processes;
- Process development, intensification and/or integration in existing industrial processes (e.g. downstream and scale-up, process design, scalability).
Products/markets
- Development of new functional materials / properties from renewable resources;
- Development of platform chemicals including bio-monomers, oligomers and polymers;
- Biomaterials, pharmaceuticals, functional food/feed ingredients.
Function-based bio-products: from function to process
- Function-based bio-products and bio-process design
