The ERA-NET Scheme

The ERA-NET Scheme is a highly innovative component of the European Union’s Sixth Research Framework Programme (2002-2006). It provides support for the transnational networking and coordination of national research programmes.
The scheme’s participants are programme managers working in national ministries and funding agencies. The main aim is to establish a structured European Research Area, to pool research resources and thus maximize efficiency throughout research in the European Union. ERA-NET does not include direct research funding, but all measures for intergovernmental coordination of existing or new funding programmes.

Under FP7 the ERA-NET scheme has been continued. A second 4 year period has been granted for ERA-IB (2012-2015) with a focus on joint research project, and more intense communication and dissemination activities.
